Classroom Management/Behavior/Discipline Policy

Chris M. Smith

Classroom Courtesy: In order to maintain an appropriate atmosphere conducive to
learning, students are asked to respect each other's rights and to avoid all
disruptions. Students are expected to arrive one time and to stay in the room for the
entire class period. Students are also asked to turn off all cell phones and other
communication devices before class begins. The purpose of this document is to inform
you about some policies that should help us to be able to work together this semester.

1. Side conversations, that is, students talking with each other at any time other
than while we are working in groups, will not be tolerated. Students who persist in
talking during class will be asked to leave the class.

2. If I ask you to move to another seat in our classroom, you must do so. Students
who choose not to do so will be asked to leave.

3. Students using cell phones, wearing earphones, or using other communications
devices during class will be asked to leave.

4. I will take up the test paper of any student who talks during a test. The student
will receive a zero on the test and will be asked to leave the class.

5. Students who have been asked to leave the classroom may not return for future class
meetings until after they have met with me in my office during office hours to discuss
their behavior.

The college exists to foster educational excellence. To this end, a classroom
atmosphere that supports learning must be maintained. No student will be allowed to
disrupt the learning and teaching in this class. Students are expected to be active,
attentive participants in this class. Students are also expected to abide by all
class policies and procedures. Students should treat the instructor and the other
students in the class in a respectful manner.
